Our Vision & Mission

At Sedgehill we:

Do what we say we do

Professional integrity is key to all that we do at Sedgehill. Our policies and practices are clear and transparent and we hold each other to account—families and school—to ensure that we deliver for students.

Good enough for my child?

Everything that happens at Sedgehill must be good enough for the children of the staff of Sedgehill. If the answer to the question is no or maybe or sometimes then it is not good enough for the students of Sedgehill.

Would I want to work with a colleague like me?

Staff have the highest expectations of themselves and each other and hold each other to account at all levels. Staff understand that they are letting the whole school down if they do not follow the correct procedures, or teach the best possible lesson, or not phone home to praise a student.

Teaching is a privilege

As teachers we are privileged to have the opportunity to work with families in order to set young people off into the world. Sedgehill only has room for teachers totally committed to the success and achievements of its students.

“Good” in all areas

By aiming to secure an Ofsted judgement of at least “good” in all areas of school life we will ensure that Sedgehill students achieve at a higher level than their peers in other schools and will have greatly improved life chances as a result.

Excellence through endeavour

Sedgehill believes there are no short cuts in life and that excellence can only be achieved through hard work, resilience and determination. These qualities come from within but are nurtured and developed through clear values that are asserted at school every single day.

Readiness, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Reach

At Sedgehill we expect all students to embody and express our 5Rs: Readiness, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Reach. Students do this in all that they do. These Rs ensure that all students come to school on time, correctly equipped and wearing their uniform correctly and with pride. Students understand the importance of supporting learning through their actions and are expected to support each other and their teachers at all times. As a result of this, students are prepared to meet the challenges they face in school and life with confidence and determination and they develop ambition and aspiration from within.

Sedgehill students are expected to take control of their own destiny. For many this securing academic success and taking advantage of the opportunities created by succeeding in exams. For others this may mean sporting success or success in performing arts or in any of the huge range of opportunities that Sedgehill has to offer students. The commitment of staff and students to the 5Rs means that all students are able to excel in many aspects of school life.

Sedgehill students are expected to contribute positively to the community while students at Sedgehill and then go on to contribute positively to society when they leave school. Staff are asked to consider “would this be good enough for your child?” when reflecting on their practice inside and outside of the classroom. It is these clear values and beliefs that have ensured Sedgehill has made  rapid improvements the last 12 months and will continue to do so in the coming months and years.
